Hello! I'm Joe.
A consultant who took a career break, became a Divemaster and discovered a passion for photographing the minuscule and the weird living in our oceans.
Motomi and I both trained as PADI Divemasters in Raja Ampat with Barefoot Conservation. Surveying our house reef (Arborek Tip & JPP) multiple times a week gave us a keen sense for where the things that didn't want to be found were hiding, and we subsequently became quite good critter spotters ourselves.
Eventually we upgraded our ancient GoPro to a camera (TG-7), and uncovered the colourful world we now try to put in print.
More soberingly, most of our research with Barefoot Conservation focused on the devastating impacts of climate change and tourism on the pristine coral reefs of Raja Ampat - indeed we performed the surveys for Raja Ampat's first recorded mass bleaching event.
We hope that by bringing to life some of the critters that make their home here, we can inspire others to do whatever they can to protect our Oceans.

Living out of our backpacks meant that we packed for affordability and space, so we have no huge strobe setups or DSLRs - just our trusty TG-7, an action camera and a few torches.
